On April 21, the 3rd China (Kunming) South Asian and Southeast Asian Language Service Forum  and the Annual Meeting of the Translation Services Committee of the China Translators Association was held in Kunming. Ms. Su Yang, General Manager of Tangneng Translation, attended the conference and served as an interview guest at the roundtable forum. Representatives from the Kunming Municipal Government, diplomats from Southeast Asian countries, language service enterprises, and universities specializing in non-common languages gathered to discuss key issues.

Kunming has hosted the South Asian and Southeast Asian Language Service Forum for two consecutive years. This year’s forum, themed "Radiation Center, Open Spring City," included keynote speeches and three roundtable discussions. Participants debated language service ecosystem construction and talent development under the RCEP framework, focusing on aspects such as economic and trade cooperation between China and neighboring countries, language services in Yunnan’s foreign economic activities, and the cultivation of non-common language talent.

The forum aimed to explore how to seize major opportunities brought by the RCEP’s entry into force, the opening of the China-Laos Railway, and Kunming’s trusteeship of Mohan to build an international port city. It sought to serve Yunnan’s goal of becoming a radiation center for South and Southeast Asia and Kunming’s development as a "Six-Spring City," while shaping Mohan into a key window for showcasing China’s national image. By establishing a language service supply-demand platform and talent pool covering South and Southeast Asia, the forum aimed to connect governments, universities, language service-demanding enterprises, and language service providers, thereby enhancing Kunming’s "Charming Spring City" opening-up level.

The first roundtable forum of the conference focused on "New Development Opportunities for South Asian and Southeast Asian Language Services Brought by Mohan Port Construction" and "Language Service Exports in the RCEP Context." Moderated by Zhu Xianchao, Chairman of LanguageBridge, the panelists included Li Xiaodong, Deputy General Manager of Yunnan Overseas Investment Co., Ltd.; Wei Jianfeng, Associate Professor at Yunnan Minzu University; Ma Biying, from the Service Trade Division of Kunming Municipal Bureau of Commerce; Jiang Zheng, General Manager of Beijing JIAGUYI Translation Co., Ltd.; and Su Yang, General Manager of Shanghai Tangneng Translation Consulting Co., Ltd.

With the deepened advancement of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, the implementation of the RCEP, and the operation of the China-Laos Railway, Mohan Port—China’s only multi-functional, open-type integrated development zone combining free trade, economic and technological development, comprehensive bonded zones, and cross-border cooperation—has ushered in historical opportunities. As an 8th-term council member of the China Translators Association and deputy director unit of its 5th Translation Services Committee, Tangneng Translation will grasp the current situation and contribute to foreign exchanges and cooperation in South and Southeast Asia through language services.
