On April 3, the 2023 Annual Conference of the China Translators Association (CTA), guided by China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and hosted by CTA, was held in Beijing. Ms. Su Yang, General Manager of Tangneng Translation, attended the conference and chaired the sub-forum on "Development Trends in the Translation Industry."
This year, CTA compiled the 2023 China Translation and Language Service Industry Development Report, which comprehensively analyzes the industry’s new developments, achievements, and challenges from perspectives including language ecology, talent development, industry standardization, translation technology, and translation in international communication. For the first time, CTA also released the 2023 Global Translation and Language Service Industry Development Report, providing in-depth research and analysis of the global industry. The conference featured multiple parallel forums covering themes such as industry trends, international translation, medical translation, film and television translation, legal translation, translation technology, and literary and artistic translation.
On the afternoon of April 4, Ms. Su Yang, General Manager of Shanghai Tangneng Translation Consulting Co., Ltd., presided over the roundtable forum on "Development Trends in the Language Service Industry and the Impact of AI," leveraging her profound industry knowledge to ensure the meeting’s professional outcomes.
During the roundtable:
- Wang Chongzheng, General Manager of the Language Technology Business Group at Transn Technology Co., Ltd., stated that while necessary tools should be mastered to improve translation efficiency and quality, over-reliance on tools should be avoided, with greater emphasis on building personal capabilities.
- Zhu Xianchao, General Manager of Sichuan LanguageBridge Information Technology Co., Ltd., noted that the industry has entered a new era of translation, with production processes shifting toward an "AI translation + human proofreading" model, requiring translators to enhance their skills and tool proficiency.
- Xu Liqun, General Manager of Beijing Speedy Translation Services Co., Ltd., proposed addressing the psychological challenges of translators and managers first, with translators needing to improve their translation capabilities and tool usage skills.
- Yang Yingbo, General Manager of Shanghai Chuangling Translation Services Co., Ltd., emphasized the importance of human expertise in business, integrating technical platforms to provide cost-effective solutions.
Ms. Su Yang of Tangneng Translation advocated that all language service enterprises:
- Closely monitor technological trends and actively embrace new technologies in production, application, and R&D.
- Leverage human strengths by focusing on cultivating high-end translators and enhancing customer service quality.
- Adhere to differentiation strategies through vertical industry focus and corporate culture positioning.
She expressed confidence that language service enterprises can adapt to challenges posed by technology and global political-economic pressures, navigating crises while seizing opportunities from transformation.
