In April, Elkem Silicones announced further investment in China, committing over ¥100 million to build an Asia-Pacific R&D center in Shanghai. The center will establish application hubs for new energy vehicles, life sciences, coating, and 3D printing. This initiative aims to fully upgrade its R&D infrastructure in China, attract global research talent, and provide more efficient, flexible, and localized product development and application support for the Chinese and broader Asia-Pacific markets. It seeks to meet growing demands for advanced silicone products and technologies in industries such as new energy vehicles, healthcare and personal care, textiles and leather, 3D printing, and beyond.
Recently, the groundbreaking ceremony for Elkem Silicones’ specialty silicone oil project took place in Xinghuo. This project is a key component of Elkem Silicones’ development strategy in China. Slated for commissioning in the third quarter of 2023, the new facility will specialize in producing specialty silicone products such as low-hydrogen silicone oil, epoxy silicone oil, and polyether silicone oil, with an annual production capacity of 6,000 tons.
