In April 2021, after competitive consultation, Tangneng Translation was finally selected as the translation service provider for the 2021 Shanghai International Film and Television Festival, marking the fourth time Tangneng has won the bid in the competitive tendering of the Shanghai International Film and Television Festival.
About the Shanghai International Film Festival
The Shanghai International Film Festival is one of the 15 global Category A film festivals recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), enjoying high reputation at home and abroad. This year’s Shanghai International Film Festival will open on June 11 and last for 10 days. Adhering to the positioning of "rooted in Asia, focusing on Chinese-language films, and supporting new talents," the festival will take the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China as an opportunity to showcase the strength and resilience of "Made in China" and create a safe, wonderful, and significant cinematic feast for film fans worldwide.
Recently, one of the festival’s most popular sections, the "4K Restoration" unit, announced the first batch of eight films: South Korean master Lee Chang-dong’s Peppermint Candy (shot in a unique flashback style), the newly restored final installment of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather Trilogy—The Godfather Part III, Stanley Kwan’s masterpieces Center Stage and Rouge starring top actors, two classic films by Claude Chabrol—La Belle Noiseuse and Une Affaire de Femmes (which were well-received in the "Tribute to Masters" section of last year’s Shanghai International Film Festival), Japanese director Hiroshi Inagaki’s Muhōmatsu's Great Adventure, and the monster film Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (selected as one of the top 10 films of the year by Eiga Junpō).
Tangneng’s Long-Term Partnership with the Festival
Since 2016, Tangneng Translation has been the designated translation service provider for the Shanghai International Film Festival and Television Festival. Over the years, it has provided:
Over 100 sessions of multilingual simultaneous interpretation
40 sessions of consecutive interpretation
Over 100 days of accompanying interpretation for personnel
Approximately 1.5 million words of written translation
in languages including English, French, Japanese, Italian, Polish, Persian, Russian, and Romanian. Tangneng has also undertaken part of the film and television translation work. Recently, it provided Chinese-English, Chinese-Japanese, and Chinese-Spanish subtitle translation services for Tencent Video.
Against the backdrop of normalized pandemic prevention and control, Tangneng was responsible for audio translation and subtitling of many videos in the 2020 festival, covering languages such as English, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, French, and Persian. Drawing on past experience, Tangneng will continue to improve its translation services this year to help ensure the successful holding of the Shanghai International Film and Television Festival and witness the perfect display of cinematic charm!
